'Humanimal'

Opening: Among the treats of late summer (at least it feels like late summer) is Kevin Kling's annual takeover of the Open Eye Figure Theatre. With collaborators Michael Sommers, Simone Perry, Jacqueline Ultan and Michelle Kinney, Kling has for seven years been spinning out his thoughts on aging, living with trauma and childhood memories. These are always worthwhile essays, buttressed with images and songs from the crew. This time, Kling is ruminating on the lives of humans with their animals — drawing inspiration from Jack London's twin explorations of instinct ("Call of the Wild") and comfort ("Wild Fang"). Kling is an artist-in-residence at Minnesota Public Radio and longtime storyteller. (7:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat., 4 p.m. next Sun., $20, ends Aug. 18, 506 E. 24th St., Mpls., 612-874-6338, openeyetheatre.org.)
