The Vikings at Running back

The Vikings are likely to draft a running back. Here's what they look like at the position today:

Adrian Peterson: $18 million option for 2017 was not exercised. Becomes a free agent on Thursday. Upon testing the market, could conceivably return to the Vikings at a far lesser salary.

Matt Asiata: Pending free agent. Was a solid pass-blocker but struggled on the ground behind an ineffective offensive line. Scored six of the Vikings' nine rushing touchdowns. Averaged 3.3 yards on 121 carries.

Jerick McKinnon: Entering the final year of his rookie contract. Accounted for 48.5 percent of the backfield snaps but managed only 539 rushing yards. Also caught 43 passes for 255 yards.

Zach Line: Pending free agent. Minimized in an offense that couldn't support a consistent run game. Played 210 snaps as a seldom-used fullback.

C.J. Ham: Promoted to the active roster after Peterson was injured late in the season. Inactive for two games. Undrafted out of Augustana University. Earned a practice squad spot out of camp.

Bishop Sankey: The former second-round pick was signed to the practice squad in November after the team released Ronnie Hillman. Signed a reserve/future deal.
