Quilting Art Today

Ongoing: In centuries past, thrifty housewives saved scraps of cloth and stitched them together into colorful quilts that were valued as warm bedding and cherished as heirlooms. Now that most fabrics are machine-made and readily available, enthusiasts have turned quilts into a popular art form. "Quilting Art Today" features more than 75 contemporary quilts, ranging from abstract designs to traditional geometrics and florals made from brightly patterned calico. It includes pieces by international collective Voyage Art Textiles, new work by Swedish textile artists, and home-grown quilts with Minnesota themes. Swedish artist Katriina Flensburg produced the colorful eye-dazzler shown here. Quilts will be displayed throughout the castle-like Turnblad Mansion.
