Get tips from experts on how to use containers in winter as well as how to arrange seasonal cut flowers, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 18 at Linder's, 270 W. Larpenteur Av., St. Paul. The Minnesota State Horticultural Society-sponsored harvest event includes samples of wines, cheeses, apples and honey from local producers. Cost is $25; $20 for MSHS members. Registration required. Fall trends What's hot for fall outside and inside the home? Bachman's and Minnesota Monthly will hold trend demonstrations on the latest fall decor, from tabletops to doorways, 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bachman's, 6010 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls. Appetizers and wine from Forepaugh's in St. Paul will be served. Cost is $5; proceeds benefit the Emergency Food Shelf. To register, call Bachman's, 612-861-7311.

Lawn seeding help There's still time to plant grass seed before the snow flies. Gertens is offering free fall lawn seeding workshops at 10 a.m. Saturdays through Nov. 3, 5500 Blaine Av., Inver Grove Heights. Prairie and grass seed experts will also answer questions. Call 651-450-1501.
