Clarence White, Jude Nutter, Katrina Vandenberg and Mary François Rockcastle will read at 7 p.m. Feb. 13 as part of the Birchbark Books Reading Series. The event will take place at the Bockley Gallery, 2123 W. 21st St., Mpls., just a couple of doors down from the bookstore. The reading series is curated by Michael Kiesow Moore and features writers once a month from September through May.

• "Body Geographic," a memoir by Barrie Jean Borich, will be published next month by the University of Nebraska Press. Borich, a former assistant professor at Hamline Univeristy, now teaches at DePaul University and splits her time between Minneapolis and Chicago. She'll read from the book at 7 p.m. March 16 at the Loft, and at 4 p.m. March 17 at Common Good Books, 38 S. Snelling Av., St. Paul.

• The annual Bloomington Writers Festival and Book Fair will be March 22-23 at the Bloomington Theatre and Art Center. Tom Hegg, author of "A Cup of Christmas Tea" and "PEEF the Bear," will be keynote speaker and will also teach a master class. The master class is $100 and is limited to 20 people. • "Dakota: The Story of the Northern Plains," by Norman K. Risjord, has been published by the University of Nebraska Press. Risjord is the author of "A Popular History of Minnesota" and "Shining Big Sea Water: The Story of Lake Superior."

• "Come, Meet the Church: Life in a Typical North American Congregation," by Arvid Dixen, has been published by Kirk House Press. The foreword is by Jim Klobuchar. On the back cover, Dixen, a Minnesota pastor, blurbed his own book: "Over my lifetime, I've read several books, and I say this one's not so bad."

• Four writers will discuss adoption and relinquishment at 2 p.m. Saturday at Open Book, 1011 Washington Av. S., Mpls. Judy Liautaud will read from her memoir, "Sunlight on My Shadow." Others include poet Margaret Hasse, memoirist Kate St. Vincent Vogl, and St. Paul Poet Laureate Carol Connolly.

• Rain Taxi Review is hosting an open mic at the Walker on Valentine's Day, and everyone is welcome to come and read an original love poem — or haiku — or couplet — or whatever you've got, as long as it doesn't take longer than 20 seconds to read. Writers Lynette Reini-Grandell, James Lenfestey, Venus DeMars and others will also read. It all begins at 7 p.m. in the Cargill Lounge, Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. Free.
