Down on the farm

In "The Ranch," brothers played by Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson (the "That '70s Show" reunion nobody asked for) try to save a small-town farm run by their tyrannical father (Sam Elliott). The presence of the steak spokesperson, as well as Debra Winger as his conflicted lady love, suggests a Sam Shepard-inspired take on family affairs, but predictable gag lines and an overly active laugh track ruin what could have been a rich crop.

Before battling it out on the pop charts, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez were enrolled in the Disney Finishing School, where they starred in "Princess Protection Program," the 2009 TV movie in which Lovato plays a royal pain forced to room with Gomez's no-nonsense country girl. Together they thwart a military coup, mean girls and a panty raid organized by Justin Bieber.
