The Vikings have the No. 11 pick in the first round of the NFL draft. It's still nearly three months away, but the mock drafts keep churning out projections, and the two prominent ones on ESPN.com right now — Mel Kiper and Todd McShay — both have Minnesota taking a wide receiver with that top pick.

McShay lists Louisville WR Devante Parker — former college teammate of Teddy Bridgewater — as the Vikings' target for now, while Kiper has West Virginia WR Kevin White going to Minnesota at that spot.

We're interested here not so much about the projections so far away from the draft (which are bound to change countless times before late April when the thing actually starts), but more in the simple questions of "Would the Vikings really take another WR in the first round?" and "What would that pick say about their power structure?"

The answer to the first question is, well, sure, anything is possible. But on a team with so many holes and a need for depth/upgrades at plenty of positions, a splash pick at No. 11 overall seems like a reach. Yes, it's a position of need (particularly after the step back in 2014 from 2013 first-round pick Cordarrelle Patterson). And yes, they'd surely love to add another target for Bridgewater. But it doesn't strike us as a the type of move a Mike Zimmer-coached team would make.

That brings us to the second question. If they picked a wide receiver that early, we imagine it would come with much input from Norv Turner, who can take plenty of the credit (so far) for the Vikings nabbing Teddy Bridgewater No. 32 overall last year while still getting an impact defensive player with their first pick (Anthony Barr). Would the Vikings double-down on Turner's evaluation or would Zimmer and GM Rick Spielman want to put their stamp on this year's draft?

Last year, everyone could take some credit for the first two picks. But it doesn't always work out that way. Maybe egos within the organization are small enough that nobody needs it? We'll wait and see how it all unfolds.
