What: USA Track and Field 1-mile road championship

Where: Minneapolis near the river. Starts on S. Second Street and finishes on West River Parkway near the Guthrie Theater.

When: Today. Women's elite race at 8 p.m., men's elite race at 8:10 p.m. Citizens races begin at 6:30 p.m.

Men's favorites: Defending champion and Winona native Garrett Heath, Seattle, personal best 3 minutes, 51.0 seconds; Stillwater native Ben Blankenship, Eugene, Ore., 3:52.7; Craig Miller, Denver, 3:53.1.

Women's favorites: Two-time champion Heather Kampf, Minneapolis, 4:21.39; Gabriele Grunewald, Minneapolis, 4:21.3; Brook Handler, Ann Arbor, Mich., 4:27.75.

Prize money: $25,000. Winners get $5,000 each, and course records get a $10,000 bonus.

Course records: Nick Willis, 3:56.1 (2013); Sara Hall, 4:30.8 (2011).
