It's hard to believe there are still "traditional" Target stores out there -- that is, those that don't feature a grocery store. But, apparently, there are.

Target just announced plans Tuesday to remodel 90 of its general merchandise stores nationwide to include "affordable and quality foods." Four stores in Minnesota are slated for or have already received the facelift: Bemidji, Alexandria, Mankato and Northfield.

Minneapolis-based Target said by year's end more than 1,100 Target stores will offer the expanded fresh food layout. This involves about 10,000 square feet of store space that is dedicated to fresh food, including a "curated" produce section, packaged meat and pre-packaged baked goods, plus some dry and frozen offerings.

This includes Target's own brands -- Archer Farms, Market Pantry and Sutton and Dodge beef.

Beyond grocery selections, these stores will feature a "more visual environment" in the beauty aisles, easier navigation with wider aisles and lower product displays in the home department, more seating and mirrors in the shoe department, and broader visibility between baby gear, supplies and apparel.
