Night lights, those comforting little devices designed to reassure kids that the boogeyman won't get them in their sleep, are being recalled by the tens of thousands by Minneapolis-based Target. It seems they might catch on fire.

The battery in about 143,000 Circo Night Lights "can overheat and cause the night light to melt, posing a fire hazard," according to the recall announcement Tuesday from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The agency said Target has been notified of two of the Chinese-made night lights getting too hot, including one that caught fire and damaged a resident's dresser, wall and plug-in. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers are being directed to immediately stop using the night lights and return them to any Target for a full refund.

The night light collection includes a pink hedgehog, a blue bird, a yellow rocket, an orange dino egg, a white soccer ball and a green shark. Model numbers are printed on the bottom.

They were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide and at Target.com from October 2014 through May for about $15.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
