It could be a perfect weekend to take a kid fishing.
And you don't even need a fishing license. It's Take-A-Kid Fishing weekend.

Minnesota residents 18 and older can fish for free Friday through Sunday when they accompany an angler younger than 16.

FREE STATE PARK ADMITTANCE
Minnesota state parks offer a 'summer sampler' and free admission during Open House on Sunday. There's also free admission Sunday at all 26 Minnesota Historical Society sites and museums, too.
In addition to providing free admission, Minnesota state parks will be handing out 15,000 environmentally friendly reusable bags, courtesy of Cub Foods. The bags will contain the Minnesota State Parks Guide, the spring/summer programs and a special events catalog.

Special family-oriented events scheduled across the state include:

- A pool party starting at 1:30 p.m. at Buffalo River State Park in Glyndon.

- An afternoon of music, food, and old-fashioned picnic games from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Itasca State Park in Park Rapids.

- Outdoor Recreation Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park in Onamia, where visitors can try out canoes and kayaks, attend skills sessions on fire building and outdoor cooking, take a nature photography class, and more.
