As of this morning, Tropical Storm Lana was centered approximately 495 milesto the southeast of Hilo, Hawaii. Sustained winds are near 50 mph, and thesystem is expected to weaken by the end of the weekend.The storm continues to move toward the west and will pass by to the south ofHawaii. Lana will come within 250 miles of the southern tip of the Big Islandtonight, but nothing more than a few outer bands of showers will graze theisland. The main impact of the storm will be much larger waves and swellspounding the south-facing coastlines of the islands, although the worstconditions will be experienced along the Big Island's southeastern beachestonight.
