Two people drowned in Minnesota lakes on a steamy Saturday.

The first, a man in his 40s, went underwater while taking an afternoon swim in Lake Orono in the north metro area.

Elk River police and rescue personnel responded to the lake after the man disappeared and the people he was with were unable to locate him, according to police dispatch audio posted by the online site PoliceClips.

Rescuers pulled the unresponsive man ashore, but he was not breathing and didn't have a pulse, dispatchers said. CPR was performed, but he could not be resuscitated.

The second incident occurred a few hours later on Lake Miltona near Miltona, in Douglas County, where a male went missing in a nearby lake. A body was pulled from 6-plus feet of water by divers more than an hour later and was not able to be revived, the Sheriff's Office said.

Neither victim has been identified by authorities.
