A sport-utility driver was killed Monday morning on Interstate 94 in western Wisconsin after her vehicle veered through a median and collided with two cars and a semitrailer truck, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 8:45 a.m. on westbound I-94 just south of Baldwin, about 20 miles from the Minnesota border, the Wisconsin State Patrol reported. Three people in the other vehicles were hurt.

According to the patrol:

The eastbound SUV cut through the median and struck a Toyota Prius and a Ford Fusion, both heading west. A westbound semi then hit the SUV and the Prius.

The SUV driver was thrown from her vehicle and died after being taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Emergency personnel removed two people in the Prius, and they were taken to Regions with serious injuries. The driver of the Ford was slightly hurt. The semi driver was not hurt.

Authorities have not disclosed why the SUV crossed the median. The names of the people involved have not yet been released.

Westbound I-94 remained closed until early afternoon so the wreckage could be removed and investigators could dissect the crash.
