A suspect in a fatal stabbing in St. Paul on Sunday night was arrested Monday, St. Paul police said.

Police said Tuesday that the suspect is a 49-year-old St. Paul man. The circumstances of the arrest were not immediately divulged.

Police also on Tuesday identified the woman who was killed as Miranda Schunk, 38, of St. Paul.

Police had said that they were looking for the ex-boyfriend of Schunk, who was stabbed about 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of N. Dale Street.

Schunk died Monday morning.

Sgt. Paul Paulos, a St. Paul police spokesman, said investigators are still piecing together what happened before the stabbing. Two police cars and the police forensic-services van were parked outside the crime scene on Monday morning.

"They are currently putting together what happened," Paulos said.

Bloomington police said Monday that they received a call from someone claiming to be the person of interest in the stabbing.

Bloomington Deputy Chief Rick Hart said his department responded to the Mall of America at 10:37 a.m. Monday after someone called police and said he wanted to turn himself in. Hart said police were unable to locate the caller.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the homicide unit at 651-266-5657.
