The rematch between Justin Verlander and Chris Sale is scheduled for Thursday in Chicago. Verlander won Round 1 on Sept. 2 in Detroit, holding the White Sox to one run on four hits with 11 strikeouts in eight innings in a 4-2 victory. Sale allowed four runs over six innings. Wednesday's scheduled matchup in that series is Max Scherzer vs. Francisco Liriano. After Scherzer tossed eight scoreless innings to defeat Chicago on Sept. 1, White Sox radio play-by-play announcer Ed Farmer said, "That's the best pitcher I've seen since Verlander last year."

Royals fans are understandably furious with the team's refusal to promote outfielder Wil Myers to the majors, even though he batted .314 with 37 homers and 109 RBI between Class AA and Class AAA, earning Baseball America's Minor League Player of the Year award. Still 21, Myers doesn't have to be protected on the 40-man roster before the December Rule 5 draft, so the Royals are using September to evaluate other 40-man candidates. But Myers remains a big part of Kansas City's 2013 plans.
