Meet Herschel, possibly the next big one-named musical talent to come from the Twin Cities.

In two months, Minneapolis native Herschel McPherson's video for "Out of My System" has racked up nearly 350,000 views on YouTube. He might look vaguely familiar, as a model for Target and many other national companies. He got his start as a model in a Dayton's fashion show at 16.

In preparation for a release party Saturday, Herschel styled himself for spring. We talked to him about his look.

Q Did you style the video?

A I styled every model with the exception of background scenes -- everything. I cold-called the Minneapolis designer Amanda Christine and told her I'm going to do a big music video, and she sent a bunch of her stuff. That was so awesome.

Q How do you characterize your music?

A I sing, I rap, I chat -- it's patois, a Jamaican West Indian style. I incorporated all these things in the music. I call it super-pop on steroids.

Q How do you describe your personal style?

A Go for it. I want to be comfortable, but I'll wear something that's not so comfortable just because it's hot. I'm not afraid of color or patterns.

Q Do you have a go-to outfit?

A I have a favorite pair of jeans that just about died. They have the biggest hole in the crotch. They're the Kelli jean by Buffalo in a great dark denim that's distressed a bit, low-rise, boot-cut, not extreme, but super awesome. They fit perfectly. If I'm in a studio or rehearsing with the band, just a V-neck tee, and I'm good. I have funky hair, so I get a little edgy without trying so hard.

Q Your hair is your signature! Is it difficult to maintain?

A Oh, yes. I figured it out over the years. I use minimal product. I'm always trying to figure out what's good for it -- Aveda shampoo.

Q Where do you get your style?

A My mother. Growing up, her style was so wicked. She was always in the Oval Room at Dayton's and buying kind of crazy things. She has this pony fur purse. She's such a stylish lady.

Q Where do you like to shop?

A Macy's, Elsworth and American Apparel. I love Target, too -- I tend to stick to the Mossimo line.

Q Any musicians with style you like?

A Lenny Kravitz. If I could go through his closet, I would just die there. Whoever is shopping for him, it's amazing.

Q You didn't wear any belts in this shoot -- do you ever wear them?

A Belts really get on my nerves. The only time I typically wear a belt is if I'm wearing a suit.
