Streaking: Mavs win 7th straight, Wolves lose 5th straight, 100-84

Kevin Love wasn't the guy who set a rebounding record tonight.

Tyson Chandler did.

Love recorded his 13th double double of the season with a 12-point, 15-rebound night, but it was Chandler who set a team record by grabbing 14 of his game-high 18 rebounds in the third quarter alone.

He did so on a night when the Mavs' bench -- led by Shawn Marion's 16 points -- scored 59 points and the Mavs barely noticed that Dirk Nowitzki scored a season-low 10 points.

The Wolves couldn't say the same.

Mike Beasley finished with 16, but tonight's game showed how vital his energy, perhaps even electricity is to the Wolves.

He showed that by collecting two fouls in the game's first two minutes and by the time he came back into the game after sitting out nearly an entire quarter, the Wolves trailed by 11 points, a deficit from which they never recovered.

"Obviously, we turned the ball over way too much," Kurt Rambis said. "Guys got discouraged. Even when we got into the 10-point range in the third quarter, our guys still had their heads down. That was a bit of a disappointment. Guys are young. We've got to get to the point where they do the little things that turn the game in their favor: Get the stops that they need, get the execution they need to make things flow the way they should flow.

"We couldn't get the stops we needed. We couldn't get the rebounds we needed...We've had a couple games now where we haven't played to our capabilities and we've got to turn it around."

Those two games were tonight's 14-point loss and Saturday's lethargic 10-point home loss to Golden State after they led San Antonio by 21 last Wednesday and lost in overtime.

The Wolves will get another chance at the Spurs Friday in San Antonio.

Backup point guard Sebastian Telfair played less than six minutes tonight -- a season low -- while Rambis turned to Sundiata Gaines for nearly 10 minutes in the second half, Gaines' most extensive minutes since a Nov. 15 game at Charlotte.

Tonight, Rambis said he turned to Gaines because Telfair has struggled recently.

Telfair committed three turnovers in that 5:55 played.

"Bassy hasn't played as well in the last couple ballgames as he's capable of playing," Rambis said. "It just seems to me his foot is bothering him a little more."

Telfair said the foot -- he's fighting plantar fasciitis in his heel -- isn't any worse than it has been.

"Same pain, " he said, adding he there's no time for test and he'll just "tough" it out.

Another thing or two:

* Rookie Wes Johnson had at least 50 family members and friends attend the game. He grew up in the Dallas area and, like Beasley, found some early foul trouble but gave his hometown friends one highlight with a springy dunk on a Luke Ridnour alley-oop pass in the third quarter.

"I could hear them when I came out before the game," he said with a smile.

* Anthony Tolliver attended the Dallas Legends' D League game Tuesday night in nearby Frisco, Tex. He watched his former Austin Toros team play, saw former Wolves guard Rashad McCants score 18 points in 15 minutes for the home team. He also said the night reminded him how "blessed" he is and he knows how easily a player can end up back in Europe or the D League rather than the NBA.

He should know. He played in both Europe and the D League (three teams actually in the D League) before he signed signed that two-year deal last summer that guarantees him at least $4.2 million.

The Wolves flew to San Antonio after the game. They'll practice there tomorrow afternoon and play the Spurs Friday night.
