DETROIT -- Liam Hendriks will be trying for that elusive first major league win Monday night, when the Twins open a four-game series against the Tigers at Comerica Park.

Hendriks is 0-7 with a 6.55 ERA in 11 major league starts, including seven this year, and breaking into the win column probably would do wonders to help him settle into a groove. He was better in his last start, holding the White Sox to three runs over 6 1/3 innings in a 3-2 loss last Tuesday.

Tonight, he opposes Doug Fister, who was so key to Detroit's second-half flourish last season, but hasn't been the same this year. He gave up nine runs (eight earned) in 4 1/3 innings at Texas in a 13-9 loss last Wednesday.

Earlier today, La Velle confirmed that the Twins made a big international signing today, landing 16-year-old Dominican infielder Amaurys Minier for $1.4 million.

Update

* P.J. Walters will make another rehab start for AAA Rochester on Friday. He started out shaky Sunday and finished strong.

* Matt Capps hopes to do a one-inning rehab stint for Class A Fort Myers next Tuesday or Wednesday and return to the Twins after the All-Star break.
