Sorry for the misleading headline, but "rich guys sign new contracts" just doesn't bring in the traffic. Here's the story:

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert signed new contracts; the former will run through 2013, the latter through 2012. They'll be up against Coco on TBS, and it will be interesting to see how that shakes out. Conan may have better luck against the two than George Lopez, who may be unhappy about being pushed back an hour, but surely realizes that now people are aware he has a show.

In related news, inasmuch as it involves moving images projected onto television screens, Larry David will be back for an eighth season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," which constitutes the longest uninterrupted period of comic misanthropy since Mencken covered the Scopes trial.

BTW, Jeff Garlin, who plays Larry's agent, is on Twitter, @jgarlin, where he posts meaningless and cryptic things like "spanish rice and all those other lotions" or "big sky egg salad." At least he doesn't use all 140 characters, which is nice; leaves some for the rest of us.
