A 6-year-old boy crossing the road to his school bus Monday morning was struck by a car on a county road south of St. Cloud, authorities said.

The boy, Kyle Voigt, of South Haven, was taken from the scene in St. Augusta to St. Cloud Hospital, where he was being checked for possible internal injuries and treatment for bumps, bruises and scrapes, said Stearns County Police Lt. John Lentz.

Still under investigation, according to Lentz, was whether the bus, driven by Linda Rose, 62, of South Haven, had come to a stop and whether its flashing signals were illuminated.

The bus, operated by Hendricks Bus Service and serving the Kimball School District, was heading south about 7:25 a.m. on County Road 7 near 220th Street and about to make one of its stops. Voight stepped into the northbound lane and was hit by a car driven by Margaret Hartneck, 60, of St. Augusta, who stopped at the scene. Investigators said they would like to talk to the driver of a red car that was behind Hartneck's car when Voigt was struck.
