Go to the King for cheap ice In this heat wave, demand for ice is at a premium. But if you don't want to pay premium prices, try Burger King. At $1.39 for a 10-pound bag, it's among the cheapest I've found in the Twin Cities. Most Burger King restaurants in the Twin Cities are individually owned, so prices and availability might vary slightly. The bags can also be picked up conveniently at the drive-through windows. In a quick price check this week, I found Target on Lake Street in Minneapolis selling 5 pounds for $1.37, SuperAmerica in Coon Rapids selling a 5-pound bag for $1.79 or a 20-pound bag for $4.49 and Sam's Club in St. Louis Park selling a 20-pound bag for $3.32.

Some chocolate with your ice? You might want to put your fancy (but discounted) chocolate on ice as you're leaving the 102nd anniversary sale at Abdallah Candies and gift shop (3501 W. County Rd. 42, Burnsville, 952-890-4770, www.abdallahcandies.com). Save 20 percent on most chocolates in 8-ounce bags or larger. Thursday's special is English toffee for $8.95 a pound (regularly $16.40) and whipping cream turtles for $13.50 a pound (regularly $24.40). Gifts (knickknacks, T-shirts, stationery, Christmas accessories) at the sidewalk sale are discounted 60 percent through Friday and 75 percent Saturday.

Storewide summer clearance at Arc Some thrift stores make you wait until a holiday for storewide 50 percent sales. Not Arc's Value Village (Brooklyn Center, 763-503-3534, New Hope, 763-544-0006, Richfield, 612-861-9550, and St. Paul, 651-788-8300, www.arcsvaluevillage. org). Everything including clothing, household and electronics will be half off from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, except brand new items with orange or white tags. Some thrift stores exempt books and household items during storewide sales, but not Value Village.
