NEW ORLEANS -- Given that Percy Harvin is expected to play today after missing two days of practice last week because of migraines, I just went through his stats for the games he has played this season after suffering from the headaches.
Harvin, of course, missed the Dec. 13 victory over Cincinnati but I count at least three games in which he has played after dealing with migraines.
The first time it was an issue was before the Vikings' victory over San Francisco in Week 3 in their home opener. Harvin missed practice time in the days leading up to the game but was able to play. He caught four passes for 51 yards and averaged 45 yards on four kick returns. That included a 101-yard return for a touchdown.
Harvin had a recurrence of the headaches before the Vikings' victory over Green Bay on Nov. 1 and again missed practice time. Nonetheless, he had five receptions for 84 yards with a 51-yard touchdown pass that he essentially caught in triple coverage. He also averaged 35 yards on five returns and had a long of 77 yards.
Harvin did not miss practice time before the Vikings beat Chicago on Nov. 29 at Mall of America Field at the Metrodome but he was added to the injury report a day before the game because of an "illness." That is consistent with the listing the Vikings used for Harvin this season when he has dealt with migraines.
So how much did that episode slow Harvin? It didn't. He caught six passes for a season-high 101 yards with a touchdown. The six receptions tied Harvin's second-highest total for the season.
The only game where Harvin was pretty much a non-factor after having migraines was in the Vikings' loss at Carolina on Dec. 20. That came a week after he missed the Cincinnati game and it was very clear Harvin wasn't close to 100 percent. He caught only one pass for 10 yards in that game, but in fairness to Harvin the Vikings had a lousy night overall.
By the way, CBS Sports is reporting that Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey (knee) is expected to play today. He did not practice during the week but took part in Saturday's walk-through.
