WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. — The state is warning weekend garage sale shoppers to watch out for recalled products.

Michelle Reinen, director state's Bureau of Consumer Protection, says if people know what they want to buy, they should check online recall lists prior to going out to sales.

She says there are also phone apps that can provide recall information.

The Daily Tribune Media reports (http://wrtnews.co/14DUypw ) about 50 percent of recalled items are children's products. Other items include lawnmowers and power tools.

Wisconsin Rapids Police Lt. Brian Krzykowski says one type of item people shouldn't take chances on is safety equipment, such as car seats and bicycle helmets.

Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department Capt. Bob Barteck says shoppers should also check appliance cords to make sure they aren't broken or frayed.
