state title games moved to monday

The threat of rain on Saturday prompted the postponement to Monday of all three high school baseball state championship games at Target Field.

The Class 1A game is scheduled to start at noon Monday, the Class 2A game at 3 p.m. and the Class 3A game at 6 p.m.

The decision to postpone the games was made by Kevin Merkle, associate director of the Minnesota State High School League, after consulting with the Minnesota Twins organization. The league made the call Friday to give participating teams the opportunity to make definite travel plans.

League Executive Director Dave Stead said, "The Twins have two different radar systems that both indicated that there will be rain on Saturday. It doesn't make sense for the Twins to bring in a grounds crew for two days, and since the weather looks perfect on Monday, we made the decision to move all of the games to make it a championship day for each team."

Two other state tournaments on Saturday — boys and girls' lacrosse in Chanhassen and the first league-sponsored clay target tournament in Prior Lake — remained as scheduled.
