State fishing report
Annandale area: On Cedar Lake, the best walleye bite has been at about 7-15 feet using jigs with shiner minnows or spinner rigs with fathead minnows. On Clearwater, walleyes are a bit deeper, at 15-28 feet, using a Lindy Rig with a shiner or fathead minnow. Bass action is good on most area lakes using PowerBait worms, Senko baits or a leech with slip bobber at about 5 feet. Crappie action is good on Lake Sylvia and Pleasant Lake.
Ely area: Basswood Lake has produced outstanding walleye action using minnows, leeches or crawlers with jigs or spinners at about 10-12 feet. On Shagawa Lake, walleyes are at about eight feet while on Fall Lake, anglers are using leeches on the eight-foot flats. Farm and White Iron are the best lakes for northern action.
Grand Marais area: Devil Track Lake and Two Island Lake have produced some walleye action using minnows or leeches. Walleye action on Cascade and Elbow Lakes is picking up as well. Northerns are taking sucker minnows or spoons on most area lakes.
Grand Rapids area: The best lakes for walleye action are Pokegama, Bowstring, Sand and Jessie using a jig and minnow. Ball Club Lake is the best lake for northern action. Bass action is best on Pokegama using a slip bobber rig at shallow depths.
Leech Lake: Walleyes are taking jigs with minnows at about 6-8 feet and at deeper depths when wind conditions are calm on Trader's Bay, Ottertail Point and Oak Point. Good bass action can be found at shallow depths in most bays.
Lake Mille Lacs: Anglers can catch walleyes during the daytime near the sand, deeper rocks and transition areas using Lindy Rigs with leeches or minnows. The best evening bite is at about 6-12 feet. Smallmouth bass action has been outstanding at about 3-8 feet using plastics, spinners or jigs near weed lines or in bays. Crappie action is best at 2-6 feet using plastic or live baits with a bobber.
