The Star Tribune on Thursday won a 2016 national Top 10 award in special sections from Associated Press Sports Editors contest judges. In the over 175,000 circulation category, the paper won for advance coverage of last fall's Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska.

The 12-page section included an illustrated cover, event history, Team USA and Team Europe player capsules, columns and a spectator guide.

Other winners in the over 175,000 special section category included Baltimore Sun, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, San Jose Mercury News, South Florida Sun Sentinel and Washington Post.

Earlier in the week, startribune.com/sports received a Top 10 honor for digital media in the over 2 million unique monthly visitors category.

Results of judging in other categories -- both print and digital -- will be announced over the next few days.
