ROYAL NEW ZEALAND BALLET

Saturday: Royal New Zealand Ballet makes its Minnesota debut this weekend with a program featuring works from some of the ballet world's most notable talents. Choreographer Benjamin Millepied — recently named artistic director of Paris Opera Ballet and familiar face to fans of the film "Black Swan" — is represented by his 2005 work "28 Variations on a Theme by Paganini" set to Brahms. The program also includes "Bier Halle," a 2013 pas de deux by RNZB artistic director Ethan Stiefel, and works by Venezuelan choreographer Javier de Frutos and former RNZB member Andrew Simmons. (8 p.m. Sat., $56-$86; 6:45 p.m. Sat., free pre-show talk, Orpheum Theatre, 910 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls., 1-800-745-3000 or 612-624-2345, ticketmaster.com or northrop.umn.edu.)

THE LAST FIVE YEARS

Opening Saturday: This two-person musical by Jason Robert Brown has been a popular choice for small theater companies. Matt Rein plays Jamie, a guy who starts the song cycle at the beginning of his relationship and chronicles five years of ups and downs. Sarah Shervey is Cathy, who takes the reverse route. We see her packing things up after a divorce, and she ends up back at the beginning. Their journeys cross paths only on their wedding day. It's a charming little show. Kevin Dutcher directs for Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company. (8 p.m. Sat., 1 & 7 p.m. Sun. Ends March 2, Hillcrest Center Theater, 1978 Ford Pkwy., St. Paul, $12-$28, 651-647-4315 or mnjewishtheatre.org.)

OUT OF THE PAN

Opening Friday: The Moving Company is bringing back this show, which had a wildly popular run last spring at the Southern Theater. Steven Epp, Nathan Keepers and Christina Baldwin head a cast that uses Grimm fairy tales as a departure point for a contemporary narrative. Written by Dominique Serrand, Epp and Keepers, the piece had an inventive and genuine feel when I saw it last time. Lots of great imagery, moments, clowning and pathos. (7:30 p.m. Fri.-Sun. & Thu. Ends March 2, The Lab Theater, 700 N. 1st St., Mpls., $15-$25, 612-333-7977 or thelabtheater.org.) G.R.
