St. Thomas loses in Division III women's basketball Final Four semifinals

After winning 19 games in a row, the St. Thomas women's basketball team lost 71-60 to Bowdoin on Friday afternoon in the NCAA Division III Final Four in Salem, Va. Since the Tommies won their only national title in 1991, they are now 0-6 in Final Fours.

Hannah Spaulding, a 6-2 senior, led the Tommies (30-2) with 17 points and eight rebounds.

The Polar Bears (31-1) kept going to Maddie Hasson and Abby Kelly and they rarely missed. Hasson was 9-for-13 from the field and had 25 points while Kelly was 7-for-11 and 21 points.

Spaulding made two free throws with 1:45 left to get St. Thomas within 64-60 but Bowdoin scored the final seven points of the game.

MSU Moorhead 63, Minnesota Duluth 54: Jacky Volkert had 16 points as the Dragons (27-6) beat the Bulldogs in an NCAA Division II Central Region quarterfinal in Brooke Olson had 22 points for UMD (23-7) in Hays, Kan.
