Matt Mohs, a major player in the St. Paul School District's recent teacher-contract talks, has been named the new headmaster at St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights.

He graduated from St. Thomas Academy in 1990 and has deep connections there. His grandfather, Sylvester Turbes, taught at the school for 43 years, and is "one of the most beloved and revered teachers in its history," according to a news release. "I am deeply honored and humbled for this opportunity to lead the institution that has meant so much to me throughout my life," Mohs said.

At the St. Paul public schools, Mohs serves as chief academic officer and has been a spokesman for contract negotiations and the district's annual analysis of student performance on state standardized tests.

He begins his new job July 1.
