St. Paul is seeking ideas for an old building near a new ballpark.

The city will host an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday in the vacant Lowertown warehouse at 293 Commercial St.

The 36,000-square-foot building sits at the entrance of the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary, near the site of the future Lowertown ballpark that will be home to the St. Paul Saints baseball team.

St. Paul Parks and Recreation owns the building and is seeking "requests for interest" from qualified developers who would like to rehabilitate three of the building's four stories.

The first floor would be an interpretive and visitor center for the sanctuary.

The city's notice said the remaining floors could be leased to tenants for complementary uses, such as an event center or a nonprofit's headquarters.

Responses must be submitted by Oct. 30. For more information, call Tom Russell of the parks department at 651-266-6415.
