Tonya Tennessen, an advertising executive with a significant background in politics and government, has been named St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman's top spokeswoman.

She will start April 30 at a salary of $100,000.

"I am excited for the mix of high-level private sector and government communications experience Tonya will bring to my administration," Coleman said.

Tennessen has been an account director since 2007 with Weber Shandwick, where she led campaigns for the U.S. Treasury Department and Fortune 500 companies among other clients.

Before that, she was press secretary to then-U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton and managing communications director for the state DFL Party. She also handled communications for developer Kelly Doran's 2006 gubernatorial campaign.
