A St. Paul man was seriously injured when he drove his sport-utility vehicle off a highway ramp and onto another vehicle just west of downtown St. Paul on Saturday night, the State Patrol said.

Eric M. Fuentes, 38, was traveling from W. 7th Street to westbound Interstate 94 about 8:40 p.m. when the accident occurred.

The driver of the second vehicle, Jennifer L. Beardsley, 37, of St. Paul, suffered minor injuries, the patrol said.

She was in an SUV heading from Marion Street to a ramp leading to eastbound I-94 when Fuentes' car dropped on hers.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. No alcohol use was detected for either of them.

The accident forced the temporary closure of the ramp from Marion Street to eastbound I-94, the patrol said.
