The death of a 25-year-old St. Paul man earlier this week was classified as a homicide Wednesday.

An autopsy by the Ramsey County medical examiner's office showed that Brandon J. Horst died from a gunshot wound, said police spokesman Howie Padilla.

The investigation into his death is ongoing. No arrests have been made, Padilla said.

"We are following a number of leads," he said. "At this point we haven't made an arrest. Investigators are working hard to pull together all the pieces of this puzzle to be able to hold whoever is responsible for Mr. Horst's death accountable."

Police were called to a house in the 400 block of Bellows Street on the city's West Side around 1 a.m. Monday on a report of an unresponsive man. Police first called Horst's death "suspicious."

According to county property records, Horst owns the home with wife, Heather Horst, who contacted police.

Brandon Horst was found inside the home. No further details have been made available.

A call to Horst's family hasn't been returned.

Several neighbors said they hadn't heard anything that morning before emergency personnel arrived. The couple who lived in the home kept mostly to themselves, neighbors said.

It is the city's ninth homicide this year.
