Not all Catholic clergy members are crazy about the new translation of the Roman missal used in masses, according to a survey by St. John's School of Theology in Collegeville, Minn.
The survey of 1,536 priests found that 59 percent do not like the new translation, which began to be used in fall 2011, compared with 39 percent who do. Among other findings:
• By a similar margin, 57 to 36 percent, priests do not like the more formal language, with more than one-third (35 percent) strongly disliking it.
• More than one-third of priests (34 percent) strongly disagree that the new missal is an improvement.
• Eighty percent agree that some of the language is awkward and distracting.
