St. Croix Lutheran senior Jon Tollefson defended both of his titles in the Class A boys 110- and 300-meter hurdles for a third straight season on Saturday at Hamline University.

Tollefson ran the 110 meter hurdles in 14.61 seconds after setting the Class A record at 13.92 seconds during the preliminary stage on Friday.

"It's been a fun four years of hurdling, and today I just wanted to finish strong in my senior year," Tollefson said. "I feel like I've done that."

Tollefson, who will run track at Harvard next year, won the 330-meter hurdles at 37.96 seconds. Minnehaha Academy senior Samuel Lundquist finished second in the event again.

The two were separated by a thousandth of a second last year in the finals.

"This is the race I get most nervous about but also excited at the same time," Tollefson said. "It's been fun racing against Sam the last four years.

Sisters run past field

Minneapolis Edison sisters Jia and Jada Lewis dominated the Class A girls finals. They took first and second in the 100 meter dash, with Jia Lewis topping the field at 12.54 seconds to defend her title.

Jada Lewis took home another gold medal by winning the 200 meter dash at 25.39 seconds.

"The 100 [meter dash] is my event, and the 200 [meter dash] is Jada's event," Jia Lewis said. "We fight for every spot that we want and in the end one of us comes in first and the other in second."

They also led Edison to a first place finish in the 4x100 relay with a time of 49.07 seconds. Edison was disqualified in the event last year.

"We race each other to get better," Jia Lewis said. "And if we don't have anybody else out in the crowd, as long we make it to finals together and race it together, we know our times will drop and we'll get faster."
