FIFTEEN FLOWERS

Opening Friday: Minneapolis photographer Cy DeCosse will go to extraordinary lengths to take flower photos -- flying across the country with cases of lights and cameras to snap a rare night-blooming beauty, or spending years perfecting 19th-century color techniques to get just the right tonality in a print. All that will be on display in his new show of 15 large flower pictures printed using a three-color gum dichromate technique he developed with master printer Keith Taylor. Moody and lush, DeCosse's prints are masterpieces of light and shadow in which a flower's pristine petals float in translucent beauty above dark, velvety leaves and stems, as seen here in his "Stargazer Lily." (6-8:30 Friday, free opening reception. Weinstein Gallery, 908 W. 46th St., Mpls. 612-822-1722, or www.weinstein-gallery.com.)
