YOYO

Frenchman Pierre Étaix, once called "the funniest filmmaker you never heard of," created several shorts and features in the 1960s. They fell into obscurity but have regained popularity in recent years, championed by fans as well as directors from Woody Allen to David Lynch. "Yoyo," from 1965, is considered his finest film. A no-account wealthy loafer loses everything in the Depression. His son goes off to war and becomes a circus clown to restore the family fortune. Trylon is screening a fully restored 35mm black-and-white print of the charmer as part of its Étaix series. (7 & 9 p.m. Fri. and Sat., 5 & 7 Sun., 3258 Minnehaha Av. S., Mpls., 612-424-5468, www.take-up.org.)
