Sept. 19: The Knights will try to prevent Tigers coach John Dzubay from notching another milestone victory.

The milestones have been falling fast and furiously for Stewartville coach John Dzubay over the past year.

Last season, Dzubay passed Hibbing’s Gail Nucech on the state’s all-time volleyball coaching victory list, with his record 885th win coming in a match against Lake City on Sept. 27, 2016. Earlier this year, he became the only high school volleyball coach in state history to record 900 victories, and he’s not slowing down, with his Tigers posting six more wins in seven matches since that milestone 3-0 sweep of Bethlehem Academy, ranked No. 5 in the Class 1A coaches' poll on Sept. 5.

Victory No. 907 doesn’t have that nice, easy-to-target number, but it would be a memorable one. This Tuesday, the Tigers host Kenyon-Wanamingo in a key early-season match between Hiawatha Valley League powers.

Both are undefeated and looking to lay early claim to the conference’s top seat, making it our choice as the MN Volleyball Hub’s Top Game of the Week.
