Jim Galvin, who coached at the school for 26 years, replaces Bob Madison, who is taking a position with the Minnesota State High School League.

Longtime football coach Jim Galvin has been named as the school's new activities director, the school announced Thursday.

Galvin, who led the Mustangs program for 16 seasons and led them to state seven times, replaces Bob Madison, who announced earlier this month he was joining the Minnesota State High School League as an associate director.

Galvin, a 26-year teacher and coach with Mounds View Public Schools, will vacate his most recent positions as varsity head football coach and physical education teacher.

“Inside and outside the classroom, Jim has dedicated his career to ensuring students remain connected to their schools, to their teachers and coaches and to each other,” Mounds View principal Stephanie Bruggers said in a prepared statement. “He’s exceptionally qualified to continue our strong tradition of excellence.”

Galvin will begin his new role on July 1. School and district officials will be interviewing to fill the head coach and physical education teaching vacancies.
