If you need proof we're living in a golden age of experimental musical mind-melding, check out the ambitious fourth season of Liquid Music, with nine concerts featuring creatively combined talent. The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra presents the 2015-16 season of its often-sold-out series with several partners, including Walker Art Center, the Guthrie Theater and the Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul.

Adding to Liquid Music's unique charms are its varied locations. The season opens Oct. 14 at Aria with a collection of electroacoustic art songs exploring secular spirituality, composed by William Brittelle and played by indie-rock duo Wye Oak. On Nov. 13-14, violist/violinist Miranda Cuckson performs at Bedlam Theatre's boho Lowertown space. Composer Daniel Wohl brings his chamber-ensemble/electronic work "Holographic" to the Ordway Feb. 11.

Grande dame of uncategorizable artistry Laurie Anderson graces the Fitzgerald Theater March 19. Rising new-music pianist Vicky Chow teams March 24 with Tristan Perich, who composes using handmade 1-bit electronics. They will perform in two art galleries at the Walker, giving attendees a one-two, visual-aural experience.

This one really piles on the interdisciplinary action: A graphic-novel love story between a robot and an office girl will be brought to life April 1-2 at the Walker via GoPro video tracking miniature stages and puppets by its author, Montreal scratch DJ Kid Koala. K.K. Barrett, production designer for the Spike Jonze movie "Her," will direct the piece with live scoring by the Afiara Quartet.

Saul Williams' spoken-word poetry will feint and jab with the new-music ensemble Mivos Quartet on April 26 at the James J. Hill Reference Library. Freaky folkie Devendra Banhart combines selections from his seven records with songs by musical pals including Helado Negro May 13-14 at the Walker.

One of the grander efforts promised is the world premiere of "Orpheus Unsung," a wordless opera by Grammy-winning composer Steven Mackey, with his own electric guitar playing a 21st-century version of the title role. The multimedia event (June 16-18, 2016, at the Guthrie's Dowling Studio) will be accompanied by SPCO musicians.

Finally, Minneapolis synth-pop/alt-rockers Poliça will work throughout the year with Berlin new-classical ensemble Stargaze to present a collaborative concert in the fall of 2016. A "virtual residency" online beginning this fall allows glimpses of their creative process from start to finish.

Tickets, most in the $20 to $25 range for individual shows or $177 for the series, are on sale now. Go to liquidmusicseries.org for information.
