An expanded park-and-ride transit station will open next weekend in Chaska at the junction of Hwys. 212 and 41. The East Creek transit station first opened in 2006 with about 250 surface parking spaces.

For the past year it has been closed as crews added a multilevel parking ramp to increase capacity to 675 vehicles.

The remodeling also added a station with a heated boarding platform, lobby and restrooms. Funding for the $7.8 million project came from state and federal grants.

SouthWest Transit offers bus service to neighboring communities, and express trips to downtown Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota and Target Field. It will hold an open house at the new-look station with refreshments and entertainment on Sept. 21 from noon until 3 p.m.

The first buses from the new park-and-ride will roll on Sept. 22 to take fans to the Vikings-Browns game, and regular service will resume on Sept. 23. SouthWest Transit stations are also in Eden Prairie and Chanhassen.
