The weekend appears headed for a wet finale, at least in the south metro area, southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. A flash flood watch has been issued, which may include periods of moderate to torrential rainfall from 4 p.m. Sunday through early Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The watch area extends along a line from Olivia through the Twin Cities to New Richmond and Menomonie, Wis. One to 3 inches of rain is likely, and could be as much as 4 to 6 inches in certain areas, with much of the rain occurring over a two to three-hour period in late afternoon and evening. The rain is described as a "slow-moving frontal boundary across the watch area," according to the NWS.

Flash flooding of low lying areas, including creeks, streams and urban areas, is possible.

In Minnesota, the flash flood watch covers these counties: Blue Earth, Brown, Carver, Dakota, Goodhue, Hennepin, Le Sueur, Martin, Mcleod, Nicollet, Ramsey, Redwood, Renville, Rice, Scott, Sibley, Waseca, Washington and Watonwan. West central Wisconsin counties of Dunn, Pepin, Pierce and St. Croix also are included in the watch.
