Principal at Parkview is a familiar face

Nicole Frovik will serve as the new principal at Parkview Elementary School, replacing Pam Haldeman, who retired this year.

Frovik is a familiar face at Parkview, having been the school's media specialist for eight years before leaving in 2012 to become magnet coordinator and instructional assistant at Glacier Hills Elementary School of Arts and Science, another District 196 school.

Frovik is a graduate of Apple Valley High School and began her teaching career at Parkview, where she taught various grades from 1997 to 2004.

Three named 'Speech Schools of Excellence'

Apple Valley, Eagan and Eastview high schools were among 20 schools nationally to be named Speech Schools of Excellence at the National Forensic League Speech and Debate Tournament, held June 16-21 in Birmingham, Ala.

The honor is based on the number of rounds of competition students from each school complete at the tournament. Four students from District 196 advanced to the finals, or top six competitors, in their category.

Eastview High School senior Ashesh Rambachan was a second runner-up in his category, while Laurel Scott, Emerald Egwim and Adam Stromme, all Eagan High School students, each made it to the final round in their categories.

This year's national tournament featured 3,000 students from around the country.
