The Lakeville South boys' tennis team moved up to No. 3 in the Class 2A state rankings by the coaches association, behind Minnetonka and East Ridge.

The Cougars are led by an outstanding senior class — 10 on the roster — and junior Trevor Tatge.

Tatge recently became the second player in program history to record his 100th career victory. The first was senior Chase Roseth, who is No. 5 in the individual rankings.

Sophomore Maxim Zagrebelny of Eagan and eighth-grader Gavin Young of Eastview also are ranked in the top 10. Zagrebelny is No. 6 and Young sits at No. 7.

Strong showing

The Simley softball team's dearth of success this season didn't hamper two of its players from having an outstanding week.

Jessica Stickler, a junior outfielder, went 10-for-15 with eight runs scored. She had two doubles and a home run, drawing four walks in 19 plate appearances. Her on-base percentage was .737 for the week.

Freshman first baseman Emma Heimerl went 8-for-19 in a five-game stretch, with two doubles, a triple and a home run. Heimerl scored three runs and knocked in 10 to go with her .789 slugging percentage.
