What the Rosemount girls' soccer team lacked in experience this season, it made up for in mental toughness.

The Irish nearly doubled their regular-season win total from 2014. They entered the Class 2A, Section 3 playoffs 9-3-4 after winding up 5-11-1 a year ago.

"We are young but fierce," Rosemount coach Gretchen Stramel said. "What we lack in experience, we make up for in grit."

The Irish finished fifth in the 10-team South Suburban Conference. Four of their first five league games went into overtime, resulting in a 2-1 victory over Shakopee and three ties.

"Although that is not the ideal outcome, the 90 minutes of hard play and determination was impressive," Stramel said.

Eleven players scored between one and four goals.

"Our success never fell on one or two players," Stramel said. "They compete, encourage and support one another. It's truly fun to watch."
