A summer of hugely disruptive road work in the south metro area starts to bite big time on Friday night. The details:

• Southbound Interstate 35E closes between County Road 42 and the I-35 split late Friday, state officials say. The closure will start at 10 p.m. and last for as many as 30 days.

Signs will seek to reroute drivers to westbound Hwy. 494 and southbound Hwy. 35W. Lanes should reopen by June 2.

• Southbound Interstate 35W will close between 42 and the 35W/35E split, as well.

But this will happen only for part of the weekend: from 10 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. Crews will remove the 35E bridge deck over 35W, which is being replaced.

Southbound traffic will use Buck Hill Road and Crystal Lake Road to return to 35.

• Northbound 35W will close between the split and 42 for the weekend: from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

At other times this summer, portions of I-35 and 35E will be reduced to one lane.
