Byerly's/Lunds buy-one-get-one-free sale started yesterday and runs through Sept. 22. For L/B shoppers, it's the best sale of the season. Shoppers who really know their prices might might quibble that even with a BOGO, the prices are not much better than a sale at Cub or Rainbow.

That might be true on some items, but not all. I am always surprised that ultimate cheapskate Robb, a frequent contributor to the Dealspotter blog, loves this sale. He said that the wine BOGO at stores with Wine & Spirits is also a good deal. Eight wines are featured, including the pricey Archery Summit Premier Cuvee Pinot Noir ($53! for two). Price check: The same wine is $40 a bottle at wine.com or $43 at Hennepin Lake Liquor in Minneapolis, so you're saving about 34 percent at Byerly's. Other featured wines during the sale range from $12 to $17 for two bottles.

The restaurants also offer BOGO deals. Get a pound of mild to wild wings at the Byerly's Creations Wing bar in Golden Valley. At Big Bowl, get chicken egg rolls, sweet and sour plum sauce or soy vinegar as a BOGO (pre-packaged items only). At Minnesota Grille locations in Chanhassen, Roseville, St. Louis Park, St. Paul, and Minnetonka, order the all-you-can-eat salad bar ($8) and get one free with a purchase of beverages (party of two only).
