No word yet -- it's after midnight -- on the condition of Grant Olson, the Wayzata linebacker who was injured in the Trojans' 34-7 victory over Eastview. Olson was the leading tackler on last year's Class 5A state title team, which is all we need to know about his importance to the Trojans.

He was hurt in the second half. There was speculation that it might have been a rib or a hip injury, but it sounded more like an abdominal problem. Olson was in pain as the medical staff checked his blood pressure and probed around his midsection after the game ended. There was talk of having an ambulance take him to a hospital for tests, but there was no way an ambulance would have been able to drive onto the field at that point; all the traffic was outbound and there were no incoming lanes open.

I was hoping to get some information on Grant's condition tonight. That hasn't happened but hopefully we'll know more in the morning.

The biggest questions in Wayzata concerned an offense that had no starters back from last year. Junior Sasha Doran was named the starting QB on Tuesday and he was very impressive in his varsity debut. He completed 14 of 15 passes for 166 yards and two TDs. He admitted to me after the game that he was very nervous, but he didn't show it on the field. Senior Dan Wexler is the backup, and as Wayzata coach Brad Anderson has done for years, Wexler played the third series of each half. And there was no dropoff when he was on the field. A young offensive line, with five juniors listed as starters, also played very well.

Everybody on the Wayzata sideline was happy with the win, as they should be.
