Sneak peak: The Borgias

It's like "Rome," except much later

Looks a bit too anachronistic, tarted up as it is with all the things you expect from a cable TV costume drama, but Jeremy Irons looks to be having fun. It's Showtime's show about the Borgias, and the new trailer is out.

Can't help but wonder if it's going to be historically accurate, or tarted up to fit modern behavior. You'll note that Lucrezia Borgia is quite a looker - that seems about right, since she was supposed to have "heavy blonde hair which fell past her knees, a beautiful complexion, hazel eyes which constantly changed colour, a full, high bosom, and a natural grace which made her appear to 'walk on air." But wasn't she accused of poisoning everyone? Not much evidence for that. She probably had affairs, but the picture of an omnivorous force of evil was probably ginned up by the Borgia's enemies. We do know this: the character Jeremy Irons plays, Rodrigo, didn't look much like Irons.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
